Target.com: Eco-Friendly Gets Its Own Section

We aren't big shoppers, but we can spend hours at Target. We love their organic cotton sheets (a lot). We love browsing there. We've even started picking up organic cereal from time to time.

So when we went to Target.com today for a little mindless fun, we were surprised and delighted to see a new item added to their navigation.

On Target.com's homepage, over to the left and just under "Decorative Accents," is a new button (new to us, at least) that reads "Eco-Friendly." Obviously, we clicked.

Target.com's Eco-Friendly department is broken into a number of sections: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Bamboo, Organic, etc. As an online shopper, we really like this. Whenever a retailer separates out their eco-friendly products, they increase accessibility, making it that much easier for consumers to shop responsibly.

"Here is everything we've got. You don't need to hunt anymore," Target seems to be saying. And we appreciate it.

Do you agree or do you think it's just a form of greenwashing? (Especially since Target has yet to completely phase out PVC products from its stores. Although, they are working on it.)

They couldn't have made that link any harder to find.. If they were practicing intentional green-washing, I think that they'd have a nice big eco-bling link and it wouldn't be buried three pages in from their home page. I am also surprised that Target is selling wind turbines. What next? On the other hand, Target is one of the few stores where the clerks still look at me like I am nuts when I break out my reusable bag. And, their organic produce is shrink wrapped more often than not, which is a big no-non. One step forward, two steps back.
