The US Green Building Council Wants Your Input

5_21_2008-LEED2009.jpgThis is a plea for a little bit of engagement with policy that will shape green building. LEED may have had the most transformative effect on the building industry, and the US Green Building Council wants your input on the third revision of their innovative standards for more sustainable buildings.

The biggest shift is the incorporation of Life Cycle Analysis into the LEED system, which may mean that we’ll see builders including more things that are expensive up front, but save money in the long run, such as PV systems and extra insulation.

If you’re thinking about remodeling, you’ll probably also want to check out the changes to the LEED standards for Existing Buildings. This is a great opportunity to make sure that one of the most influential standards reflects your values -- but do to that, they need to hear your voice.

Read the letter introducing the changes, then set some time aside to read through the new standards and comment.
