ATers are on the right track. A recent article in Time Magazine listed 51 things we can each do to live more sustainably, and we were pleased to discover that quite a few items on the list come hand in hand with our kind of living.

I disagree with #26, as I'm sure many people who have planted bamboo would too. It's a very invasive plant and can very easily take over, at which point is can become difficult and costly to get rid of. There are plenty of native plants that can be used to achieve a similar effect.

#26 works if you do it right. sink 5 gallon buckets into the ground and plant the bamboo in the buckets, a bit more labor intensive but this controls the growth to a specific area

Using a clothesline is a fine idea, but for really significant results, my money's on algae. National Geographic maps out the benefits in their October biofuels story:
