The agency behind the push, Nature England, is encouraging people to keep bees in their gardens or rooftops. The Omlet Beehaus, launched on Wednesday, is "a plastic beehive for the urban conservationist." The agency's cheif scientist, Tom Tew, says that if more urban residents kept honeybees, it would increase the insects' numbers and make them more resilient to attacks from disease and pests.

The Beehaus is three feet by one foot eight inches high, providing twice the amount of room the typical bee colony needs to live comfortably. But with a price tag of £465 or $790 (click here to visit the product page at Omlet UK), let's hope it holds a whole bunch of bees.
