Earlier this week we blogged an article from the New York Times about wind companies bullying poorer communities in Upstate New York.
Now, if Mayor Bloomberg has his way, the wind companies might also find fertile ground in New York City.
Windmills on the Brooklyn Bridge?
Yesterday, in a speech at the National Clean Energy Summit, Mayor Bloomberg floated the idea of having windmills placed on bridges and skyscrapers in New York City.
"Perhaps companies will want to put wind turbines atop bridges and skyscrapers, or use the enormous potential of powerful off-shore winds miles out off the Atlantic Coast, where turbines could generate roughly twice the energy"
We like this kind of optimistic, out-of-the-box thinking. Bloomberg also expressed a desire that New York City utilize solar panels and river tides in an effort to create more of its own energy.
What do you think? Is a windmill on the Empire State Building silly? Is it going too far? Or is it just the type of thinking we need more of?

I also love the optimistic attitude. I think they are some ideas that are definitely worth consideration, and if nothing else maybe putting in some green roofs (grass). :) I wish my home town where as motivated to go green even if some of the ideas are out of the box. Man, I love out of the box!
