Fiesta Collection by Ten Thousand Villages

3-19-2009basket.jpgIt's just barely starting to feel like Spring here, but we're already really itching for Summer. We got a little tease of warm weather yesterday, and that's all it took. Apparently, the people at Ten Thousand Villages are feeling the same way.

They just released their new Fiesta Collection -- a bright, colorful array of jewelry and home goods that's supposed to feel like Summer.

Pictured above are baskets made from recycled paper ($18)

Here we've got another recycled paper product -- a hot mat ($8).

And last, but not least, a very rustic looking mortar and pestle ($48). Just think of all the summertime guacamole you could make with this thing.

I bought the same hot mat from Oxfam in Perth, Australia. Not too water resistant, but really lovely and a great idea.

I just want to give a glowing review because I volunteer a a place that sells Ten Thousand Villages things. Everything is 100% fair-trade and most is hand-crafted by low income families in third world countries. Almost everything is made from sustainable resources or recycled products. It a great store and they also have some great good quality jewelry at very reasonable prices.

My mother has some of these hot plates and they seem to work fairly well. I've never noticed any problems with their water resistance. Not sure what the ones from Oxfam are like, but the ones from Ten Thousand Villages are covered in a sealant to protect them from water, you probably still can't drop them in the sink, but they've held up very nicely.

Oh, I love Ten Thousand Villages and I go to the Ten Thousand Villages down the street from me like everyday. I have the hot plates. They're awesome. Actually, I have almost everything from the store.

I purchased the cup holders in a small holder, it was like $20 and my friends love it for their beers on my coffee table. Totally awesome!
