Organic Kitchen Towels at Target

8_25_2008-target2.jpgStephanie noticed that Target has an entire new section on their website dedicated to "smart choices for you and the environment." We're seeing the same kind of green creep in their stores, such as these apparently unbleached organic towels in the kitchen department.

We like the soft color and the texture, which seems to be softer than the standard bar mop towels. The price is $7, and they are available in stores only, not online. We would have picked up a package, but we don't need towels right now, as we recently scored a huge package of (not organic) washcloths that we're using in our ongoing quest to eliminate paper towels.

Target is also selling flour sacks in the same line for drying glassware. The paper sleeve on the towels is 80% post-consumer recycled, and the towels are made of IMO-certified organic cotton. (We're still doing a bit of digging on IMO certification—here's a blog post on the plus and minuses when it applies to coffee.)

Peggy over at Tree Hugging Family has purchased the towels and seems to be satisfied.

Target use to sell much more organic kitchen towels. They sold the organic handtowel, dish rags, drying towels all in an assortment of colors like yellow, green, beige, etc.

I got me a few of them when they first came out. For some odd reason they stopped selling them though, which leaves me very disappointed. Colorful organic kitchen towels are almost impossible to find.

What a great find! We use those flour sack towels all the time for drying dishes, but I always felt bad about buying them at Bed & Bath. Organic seems like a much better option! (Of course, I tend to bleach mine when I do the laundry, which negates the whole "unbleached" thing.)
