Landing Strip Solution:
KangaRoom 3 Pod Bamboo Charging Station

5_20_2008-3pod1.jpgProblem solved. We've been keeping an eye out for a solution like the 3Pod Bamboo Charging Station so we jumped on the opportunity to test it out. An added bonus was that it fit perfectly into the IKEA EXPEDIT bookcase that's now functioning as our de facto landing strip. Our thoughts and close-up photos after the jump...

5_20_2008-3pod2.jpgThe design is simple and versatile— slots large enough to contain a cell phone, iPod, or Blackberry, with a few holes for pencils and pens and another slot just big enough for a notepad.

5_20_2008-3pod3.jpgThe front panel slides off for easier access to wiring, though it was still tricky to get the iPod dock through the hole in the top.

5_20_2008-3pod5.jpgKeyhole slots in the back make it easy to hang on the wall. We'd put it there, but then we'd have to figure out how to hide the power cord.

5_20_2008-3pod6.jpgThe craft and finish is acceptable, but there were visible metal fasteners and one sloppy corner joint on our sample.

The 3 Pod Bamboo Charging Station is $45 online at KangaRoom. Standard shipping runs about $10.

If you leave the chargers plugged in all day they drain power even when the iPod or mobile phone isn't attached, which isn't particularly green.

CJL, on the website it shows that you can use a power strip in the bottom of the charging station. With the slide-open front, you can just switch off the power strip when you're done charging and voila, no power drain.
