This is not at all ground breaking, but so easy to do yourself – all you have to do is be willing to give up one small base cabinet in your kitchen.

We’ve seen pullout trashcans before, and thought this unit would make a great dual recycling & trash system. Paired with the door mounting kit the Rev-A-Shelf makes for inconspicuous disposal.

As we’ve been using our bins, we’ve noticed that we have at least 4 times more recycling than trash waste. So, if taken one step further we’d get a larger bin for recycling, and smaller for trash, but we haven’t found anything that fits yet. If you need to separate your recyclables, or a way to distinguish between which bins are for what, you can get these color coded lids to put on top.

Voila! The new system only cost us about $70 and about an hour of DIY time. The old trash can is now being used in the basement. What have you done to organize your recycling & trash?
