Simple Green: Hidden Recycling & Trash Center

We recently moved into a new home - open floor plan, but small on Kitchen space. While we already had a nice stainless steel trashcan, we had no place to put it. We also really dislike the idea of having trash and recycling out in the open for all to see (and smell). At a trip to Home Depot we came across a solution: Rev-A-Shelf - inexpensive, hidden recycling & trash center!

This is not at all ground breaking, but so easy to do yourself – all you have to do is be willing to give up one small base cabinet in your kitchen.

08-15-08RecClosed.jpgWe’ve seen pullout trashcans before, and thought this unit would make a great dual recycling & trash system. Paired with the door mounting kit the Rev-A-Shelf makes for inconspicuous disposal.

08-15-08RecOpen.jpgAs we’ve been using our bins, we’ve noticed that we have at least 4 times more recycling than trash waste. So, if taken one step further we’d get a larger bin for recycling, and smaller for trash, but we haven’t found anything that fits yet. If you need to separate your recyclables, or a way to distinguish between which bins are for what, you can get these color coded lids to put on top.
