Remarkable Repairs Competition at Platform21

Dutch design group Platform21 (remember their IKEA hack contest?) recently held a remarkable repairs competition and posted a Repair Manifesto that opposes throwaway culture, encourages people to view repairs as a creative challenge, and seeks to make repairing cool again...

The competition winner was Siba Sahabi who repaired a plastic bag (image 1) with beautiful results. Other entries range from the ingenious (coke bottle gutter repair) to the hilariously ridiculous (umbrella railing replacement), but all are great examples of using repairs an opportunity to think creatively.

Read more about the Platform21 = Repairing project on their website, which includes lots more images of repairs and the Platform21 Repair Manifesto.

Here's a humorous take on the same idea:

We fix things, mend clothes etc. My husband has a pair of slippers that look like homer simpson is eating his feet. He's had them for 10 years and there were big holes in the bottoms, but it was a snap to patch them. It doesn't always require special skills, just imagination and some patience.
