The 4th R: Repair

11-11-2008screwdrivers.jpg"Repair" has been nominated as the fourth R, and we couldn't agree more. In this type of economic environment, reusing, reducing, and recycling may not be enough. The ability and willingness to repair things saves money and saves a lot of stuff from an eternity in a landfill.

We have to admit, we've never been too good at repairing things. If it just takes a little glue, sure. But if we're talking screwdrivers or wires of any kind, we often back away with our hands in the air. Remember when Jonathan talked about repairing his printer? That frightened us.

That's why it's especially great that Planet Green has not only nominated Repair as the fourth R, they've also included a number of links to some awesome tutorials.

Learn how to repair toasters and other small appliances, and then move on to refrigerators! And, if you don't feel like you can do it yourself, hunt for a local repair shop.

How do you feel about repairing things? Are you a Mr. (or Ms.) Fix-it?

The Honey-Do list in our house is for me. Husband deals with everything computer/sound-system related and I do anything that requires power-tools.

Add my vote for "Repair" to be the 4th R!

I'm not handy enough to fix anything electric myself, but I always prefer repairs over replacement.

I do, however, mend my own clothes and whatnot. I even replaced the lining on a vintage coat myself.
