Having a green home includes redefining all those little products in the get-ready routine. If you're getting all dolled up for something fun this weekend (and not preparing for Hurricane Ike like half of Texas is), then consider this: would you make the switch to natural/organic makeup, even if it means spending twice as much in some cases?
Not everyone wears makeup. Personally, I tend to wear very little: a mineral powder foundation, Burt's Bees lipgloss, and sometimes eyeshadow. My boyfriend doesn't wear any at all, so I realize this post may not be of any interest to some of you.
But this article from Grist brings up the point that people, myself included, have looked past the tough economy to reach for natural makeup.
If you have a regular makeup regimen, would you consider phasing it all out to use all-natural makeup?
And if you've already taken the plunge for the au-naturale beauty products, be sure to leave tips about your favorite brands.

I am a huge fan of Physician's Formula Organic Wear - 100%Natural Origin Makeup. The pressed powder is light weight, feels great on the skin, and blends well. The Organic Wear packaging uses 93% less plastic than other companies, and the make-up is not tested on animals. Overall, I give it rave reviews.

I am definitely willing to spend more money on an organic product, but the real deal breaker is that it has to work!
Recently, I bought the Bare Essentials line, and love their products. Over time I plan on using their products exclusively - it's mostly just a few eye shadows that I have left which are non-natural products.

I like Alba TerraTints instead of lipstick. It's sheer, minty and has SPF 18 in it. And it doesn't turn BRIGHT pink on me.

I've been heading in this direction for a while now! I started out not buying anything that had been tested on animals, and I've been going all natural. I'm a fan of Everyday Minerals (their prices don't break the bank, and they even have free samples!), Burt's Bees, Avalon Organics, and Lush for other goodies. All the companies I listed do not test on animals, are quite affordable, and are mostly natural (burts bee's isnt 100%)!

Lavera! Their products are gluten free as well, a huge deal for those of us with a gluten intolerance.

I keep trying to find products-especially skincare with no success-I have very sensitive skin, and can't use anything that has fragrance. Any suggestions? Plus I my skin has gotten drier in the last few years...

Dr. Hauschka! I started using their skin care about a year ago and have recently started using their makeup as well. My skin has never been clearer or more "radient". It is so nice because I used to have to use harsh chemicals to try and "dry out" my skin, and their stuff just adds-back the nutrients and oils that you NEED so that your skin doesn't react unfavorably to stress, environment, makeup, etc. It's expensive, but really worth it, and green!

I have been slowly phasing out my makeup to include more natural products. In fact, I decided to streamline my makeup routine completely to include only a few things that I can wear on a regular basis. Even better: multi-purpose products in colors. Some of my basic faves: Burt's Bees pomegranate lip balm and Jane Iredale mineral foundation base.

You can make your own blush with beet juice and cornstarch. Sounds weird, but it works!

Rndrc, Kiss My Face has fragrance-free organic/animal friendly lotions that may work for you. I use their Alpha & Aloe oil free moisturizer (has 5% alpha hydroxy acids). It's very gentle and soothing.

I have been slowly changing my beauty products into better options.
-Dr. Hausckha mascara
-Nvey eco erase (A certified organic corrective makeup that conceals blemishes, dark circles, and other imperfections.)
-Korres lipstick (smells divine, like vanilla and honey!)
-Mineral foundation & blush
-lotions&cleansers from Korres, Juice Beauty (didn't like so much), etc. etc.
Next steps:
-better nailpolish
-eco hairspray
I've really liked Whole Food's selection. The rest I've found from Sephora.

Hmm... I don't really wear that much makeup, so using more natural makeup isn't that big of a problem. I've only ever found one foundation that I can properly use without winding up with a bright red or oily face (a tinted moisturizer from Aveda - it has lavender!), and it's nice that it turned out to be an Aveda product. It's expensive, but I only buy about one a year.
Mascara... I take my mascara seriously, and you will pry my Clinique out of my cold, dead hands. The more natural mascaras I've tried just don't work as well.
Lip balm/gloss is a big thing for me. I always try my best to stay as natural as possible with lip products - and it makes sense, since if you lick your lips, or eat or drink while you have your lip product on, it's going to wind up inside of you. I've found so many great etsy sellers who do all-natural vegan lip balms (my favourite is SpaTherapy - try the peach lemonade flavour!), and I love Alba and Burt's Bees for commercial brands.

I switched to LUSH for my shampoo, conditioner and body lotions. I tried using their products for facial care, as well. I've been using Proactiv for about 6 years now, and it's the only thing that's kept my face in check. When I tried to switch to the Lush stuff, even gradually, it was a disaster. So I'm kinda bummed I have to keep putting chemicals on my face, but oh well.
I use Bare Escentuals makeup and love it. Like lemonader, I too take mascara very seriously and will probably use Benefit products until I die.
Tom's toothpaste is good! I need to switch to organic gloss, thanks to lemonader for the tip!

I want to go green with my makeup, but I find all of the marketing to be so OVERWHELMING.
I don't know what is green-washing, what is truly organic, and what is *good* and it all gives me a headache just thinking about it. I have drier skin so I have never worn a power-base foundation, it has to be creme based for me, and this seems to be a trickier task than most other products.
I also wear contact lenses, so my mascara has to be smudge-proof and water-proof, otherwise it ends up under my eyes halfway through the day.
beyond all of this, I would definitely be willing to try organic makeup. In fact, sometimes I get worried about all of the carcinogenic crap that goes onto my face since there are very few regulations for makeup.
I'd love to see someone *cough*hint*AT*cough* buy a bunch of the eco products and comment on their effectiveness!
Good post :)

I use Bare minerals but my blush is talc :( I'm waiting to run out until I go and buy either the bare minerals blush or physicians formula's organic blush.
I don't think I could go organic mascara tho. I do like burts bees lipgloss with a hint of color.
I second CFYG! Post up what works and doesn't Re-Nest!
