We're still concentrating on taking shorter showers (it's a tough one for us), but now we've started trying to green other parts of our shower routine as well.
And we got some help during our last trip to Trader Joe's.
We're still concentrating on taking shorter showers (it's a tough one for us), but now we've started trying to green other parts of our shower routine as well.
And we got some help during our last trip to Trader Joe's.
With our shower in mind, we made three awesome purchases the last time we were at Trader Joe's. A tube of Honey-Mango Shaving Cream ($2.99) and a bottle each of Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo and Conditioner (each under $4).
The shaving cream, unlike the traditional version we used to use, is paraben free (and smells like heaven). The shampoo and conditioner are both paraben free and laurel/laureth sulfate free. Ultimately, the products work and smell awesome. They cost less than the traditional products we'd been buying and they're healthier for us. Oh, and they're pretty cheap.
We think we'll be buying all of our bath needs at Trader Joe's now. Anyone else feel the same?

The only thing in my shower is TJ's Castile soap and their citrus conditioner (like many other people, I've gone "No 'Poo" and ditched the shampoo altogether).
The castile soap is great on my face, body and for shaving and it lasts for quite some time. Its a great way to de-clutter your shower and get down to products that don't damage the environment.

I say watch out! Some TJs bath products have parabens in them... a sad discovery. :(

Love their shampoo. I don't use conditioner, so I can't comment on TJ conditioner.

I've always loved trader joe's bath products! I can't say I've been very watchful about the parabens... I buy them because I like them and they're reasonably priced. I also like tj as a company and certainly don't mind supporting them by buying their store brand products.
The grapefruit-chamomille sea salt scrub is wonderful!

What i've been dreaming of for YEARS (as in, since i was involved in the "Save What's Left" enviro after-school club in high school) is a regular grocery/drug store that would sell my regular bath products in bulk somehow. As in, bring in your empty bottle of TJ's shampoo & refill it at the store. Reducing all the packaging is something i can definitely get behind.

mh - what a great idea! I've started saving my pump bottles from face wash, etc to reuse as hand soap dispensers around the house. New ones are $10-$20...no thanks!
I've wanted to try TJs shampoo and conditioner since I first saw them - now I can't wait to run out of shampoo!

Love, love, love TJ's Honey-Mango Shaving Cream. Clogs up my razors somethin awful, but worth it.
After years of spending $40-50 on upscale shampoos and conditioners, I've switched to TJ's "Nourish" shampoo/conditioner. It's $2.99/bottle, and contains no sodium laurel/laureth sulfates, which is the ingredient that strips processed hair of color in most pricey products, hence the need for all those "color depositing" lines to make your color last between salon visits (coloring isn't an option for me - been grey since I was 18 and not ready to go silver yet, at 32). My hair gal agrees that it's got all the good ingredients in it, along with tons of organic fruit and herb extracts - another ingredient that ups the price of more expensive salon lines.
Also, love the smell of the citrus line (but not as crazy about the shampoo/conditioner, and it's not sodium laurel/laureth sulfate-free) so I use the body wash. The bar hand soaps are awesome, too ($1.99/2).

I like their other products, like the 'purify' sea salt grapefruit and chamomile body scrub. It's like visiting a spa every time.
