How Green is Your Tissue?
Greenpeace Spoofs Kleenex

4-19-2009kleenex.jpg

It's allergy season in our household — at least our noses think it is. So there's been a lot of tissue usage going on lately (no...we haven't yet switched to hankies). But, short of hankies (for now), we want to keep our tissue consumption as green as possible. So, it looks like we won't be buying Kleenex brand tissues. Jump below to watch the video and find out why...

According to Greenpeace, Kleenex contains no recycled content. And because of that, they're spoofing Kleenex commercials on Youtube ... and it's actually very funny ...

What do you think?

Here's Greenpeace's Recycled Tissue and Toilet Paper guide.

I would love to see a post on hankies. I kinda want to switch, but there is just something about carrying around a snot rag that makes me turn my nose up.

My dad uses a hankerchief. Obviously he blows his nose in the middle and then folds it up so it's not getting mucus all over his pocket.

Fun hankerchief trivia: Hankies are for women, hankerchiefs for men.

Yes, I would also like to know how allergy sufferers cope with the Kleenex issue. Do they need to carry around more than one hankie?... I seem to go through 5-6 in a row, in the mornings....

No way I could switch to a hankie, I have sneezing attacks that last 30 minutes, and especially in public I'd run out of "folds" pretty fast. I am upset to hear of the lack of recycling, I do prefer Kleenex over other brands.

We use the 7th Generation brand. They got a very good review from Greenpeace.

7th Generation and TJs brand of recylced toilet paper was also well reviewed.

Thanks for this post. I was just thinking about this earlier today when I was suffering through one of my (near) daily allergy attacks & threw out about 4 blazingly white pieces of Kleenex. I buy my paper products (t.p., kleenex, paper towels) in bulk at Costco & am eager to find a replacement option before my current stock runs out.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my hankies. I have an entire collection of vintage ones. When I'm really sick, I bring a couple of fresh ones along in my bag. But for everyday sneezes, etc. they are great. Plenty of folds. Way more absorbent than Kleenex. Fashionable. No ugly boxes sitting on the coffee table. And they don't rub my nose raw. Try it!
