Naturally, we turn down the heater significantly while at work or when sleeping so it can become quite cold in our house. Luckily, our dog is part husky so she was born for the cold - but what if we had a dog that wasn't as tough?

Olive Green Dog has a great selection of eco friendly hand knit sweaters from alpaca wool (more gentle on the planet than other animals) and regular wool knitted by Fair Trade workers.

This reversible coat from Etsy store anniessweatshop is made from fleece derived from recycled PET containers (soda bottles) and/or post industrial polyester waste.

THE PUG PICTURE!!! so cute
Dog clothes are always so debatable in my social circle. Most of them think a dog has fur and that's good enough. I think its cute but my dogs never let me dress them up in clothes they try to rip them off.
I think more than anything a dog in a big city should wear those little boots especially during snow season and when all those bad chemicals are thrown to melt ice.

withcbaby, you can tell your friends that some dogs really do need that extra warmth! i have a greyhound, and awesome though she may be, she was bred to be not much more than skin and bones, so MN winters make a coat necessary. if it can have a bright yellow lightning bolt on it, so much the better.

I've seen plenty of small dogs shivering they're so cold! Sometimes it's pathetic to see them wrapped in a blanket, being carried. I'd rather see them hoofing it on their own in a sweater.

Related to your comment "...we turn down the heater significantly while at work..." please don't put any clothing on your dog while it's alone in the house. I only put sweaters on my dogs when I'm with them. You should never leave a collar or any other clothing on your dog if it's at home alone for any length of time. If they catch the collar or sweater on something while they're alone they will struggle and quite possibly hurt themselves badly trying to escape.
