Q: I'm looking for people to submit homemade dog (or pets in general) treat recipes. Either link to great ones they have found or list ones they know. Last year I made homemade dog treats for my mom and sister's dogs for Christmas (and our Pembroke Welsh Corgi as well). It went over really well, and would like to do it again, but the recipes I used last year were so-so&hellip

I had some from a store that were oatmeal flax seed and smelled like cinnamon, and Rocky loved them.
Editor: Josh, what a great question! We'd love to also have some good dog treat recipes. We don't have pets, but several close relations have beloved dogs, and it would be nice to remember them this Christmas.

I don't have any of my own recipes but I do use The Small Dogs Doggy Bone Cookbook: The Fun, Easy Way to Bake Love and Nutrition into Your Dog's Diet often. My two bulldogs LOVE the recipes in this book. They're easy to make and don't require a ton of ingredients. I also use the Three Dog Bakery Cookbook on occasion but the recipes in this book require more ingredients and might be easier to screw up. I've made a couple of things from this book that my boys refused to eat... and that's just sad. A bulldog refusing to eat?? Unheard of! lol

This is sort of loosy-goosy ... but I take a cup of rolled oats, few scoops of natural peanut butter, generous squeeze of honey and sprinkles of flour. Mix em together until you get a consistency you like and scoop onto baking pan like little cookies ("treats"). Smells and tastes like peanut butter cookies and most doggie friends like them.

"Flea Hater" Dog Biscuits: 1 c. flour (or flour/cornmeal combo); 1/4 c. brewers yeast; 2 T. veg oil; 1 clove garlic, minced; 1/2 c. stock (I use Better than Boullion to get veggie stock). 1. Heat oven to 400; grease cookie sheet; 2. mix dry ingredients; 3. add oil garlic to broth; 4. add liquid to dry ingredients; 5. knead 2 min; 6. roll 3/8" thick, use cookie cutters to cut out (or just slice in a grid for square biscuits); 7. bake 20 min, rotating pan after 10 min.; 8. turn oven off but leave biscuits in cooling oven for 90 minutes. (It's sometimes a good idea to make a sign reminding roommates not to preheat the oven without taking them out first!)
They're all ingredients I'd eat, and the dog seems to love them. The flea-fighting properties are a bonus. I've made double batches of dough and frozen one for a few weeks until I needed to make more.
