Bamboo Screen from Gaiam

1-28-08screen.jpg

This bamboo screen from Gaiam reminded us a little of the Eames Molded Plywood Folding screen, but it's available at a much lower price tag of $269. Click below for links...

The Gaiam Screen is made from pesticide-free bamboo with reinforced edges. The screen stands upright by rolling it into place. If you need to stow it in a closet, just roll it up. Other similar ideas include the Eames Molded Plywood Folding Screen ($1,699 at DWR) and the Kraft Paper Molo Softwall ($790 at Unica Home). The Gaiam screen seems like a more affordable, but still eco-conscious version of a modern classic.

i'm staring at the one from chiasso right now. We have it in our office to cover up the extremely ugly sink area. it's nice because we move it front of the sink when we don't need it and then slide it out of the way when we need some water (can't do much else with is since it's only like 9 inches across, what's the point)

it works really good though. We were going to get the eames one, but the photos are deceiving, it's actually quite short, and we really wanted to hide it.

A modification i would make. Offer it in different heights. Although it is taller then the eames one, we have 9 foot ceilings right there so it would be cool if it could go almost all the way up. Or offer it in a few stock heights and a way to cut it.

Also, ours is dark brown, and the edge is unfinished, so it's light brown, which on the side on the floor is fine. but, i'm over 6 foot and i can see the top of it, and i hate that it wasn't stained the same color....
