Back in our summer camp days, we made friendship bracelets and rolled beads out of tiny scraps of paper. But never did we think beyond jewelry. Well, artisans in the Philippines have taken the idea to a whole new level, crafting vases out of magazines and newspapers.

Not unlike our necklaces, this recycled magazine vase is made of hand-rolled “beads.” And believe it or not, it can hold water, just like the newspaper vase below. The secret of the latter is a handy metal insert that protects the fragile fans.
Green, fair trade and a bargain to boot? Sounds like a perfect housewarming gift.
