Bicycle Rack Become Modular Home Design
San Francisco Chronicle 6.21.2009

6-22-2009arc.jpgThis is the House Arc, an off-the-grid modular home design by Palo Alto architect Joseph Bellomo. The inspiration? A bicycle rack.

6-22-2009arc2.jpgThat's the bike rack. And we definitely see the resemblance.

According to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle, the "tubular steel armature of the House Arc is sheathed in translucent polycarbonate plastic coated with a solar film to power light`bulbs and home appliances." An 800 square-foot House Arc will cost around $100,000.

The first House Arc prototypes are going to be built sometime this year on the Big Island of Hawaii.
