You've heard of hybrid vehicles; get ready for hybrid housing. This type of construction combines modular, prefabricated parts with a site-built home to save money and reduce waste. Via Prefabcosm, we found an article from the North Carolina-based News Observer about one such hybrid home in Asheville...

Designed by Colorado-based Studio B Architects, the home is based around three modular components: a single-story kitchen/laundry/bath combo on one end, and two bed/bath modules stacked two stories high on the other end. The core of the home is a site-built living room and staircase that spans the modular sections with a slanted ceiling.

A couple of notes after reading the article. This house is in Orange County, NC (Chapel Hill is in this county), and also the article says this was done by Studio B Architects who are located nextdoor in Durham, NC.

Also, our newspaper is called "The News & Observer" ..but thats just me being picky. Thanks for bringing the article and this house to our attention.
