Room in a Wardrobe: Second Skin by Rene Siebum

We love furniture that is multi-functional and space saving. This beautiful wardrobe designed by Rene Siebum not only functions as a light fixture, bookcase, closet and room divider, but with the doors fully extended it actually transforms into an entire room. According to Siebum, “The aim of the space is to create an environment that embraces and allows us to focus and close off.” See a video of the transformation of Second Skin after the jump.

Siebum was inspired by Japanese architecture, which typically has rooms that are open and flexible with use. Depending on the activity spaces can be modified using furniture, screens and curtains rather than full walls. “In this sense objects become mediators between spaces, secluding one from the other.” Find out more and see other projects at Rene Siebum's website.

I think this would be even cooler if it had a bed that could fold out of the wardrobe with shelving behind the bed, or a drawer in the lower part of the wardrobe. If you had company over and only had space in the living room, or just needed an extra bed "room" how easy it would be for them to have their own personal space in your space.

Either way, I still love it.
