11-17-2008recyclingbin.jpgSaturday, November 15, was America Recycles Day. It passed with little fanfare here at Re-nest -- but it still has us thinking about recycling and how it works.

Have you ever wondered how all those different types of plastic, glass, and aluminum you toss into your recycling bin get separated? How single stream recycling works?

Check out the video after the jump.

This video, from RecycleBank, explains the technology that separates your recycling. For all you ecogeeks, it's pretty fascinating stuff:

That is brilliant. I worked as a housekeeper for a hotel a few years back and it was my job (and mine alone) to go through all the bags of recycling and sort it. Stinky, stinky work.

Very interesting, I always wondered how this happened. Our system is (finally) about to be changed over to a single stream. We are eagerly awaiting not having to tie up packages of paper and cardboard separately!
