Separate Recycling Bins?

051508_recyclebins.jpgOur garbage system goes something like this: if its trash, we chuck it in the big trash can; if it's recyclable, we put it on the counter in our laundry room (it's close to the back door). This usually leads to an unsightly pile by of newspapers, miscellaneous boxes, bottles, and more--not to mention the process of taking it all out and sorting it into the right bins outside.

In Baltimore, we have a single stream recycling plan- no sorting required. This includes paper, 1-9 plastics, and cans. I just chuck everything in a yellow bin in the back of my rowhouse and take it out the day it's picked up.

I don't think I'll be able to move to the county: I can recycle plastic party cups and plates!!!

garbage can with easy access. Two recycling baskets under the fridge - one for glass and plastics and one for papers.

i was just complaining in an AT thread about the lack of 3-part stainless steel trash cans available in the states. they sell them in canada and europe, yo! that show Neat once used this awesome trash can in an episode - it was rather shallow, but long. stainless. three lids. each the same size! and for recycling, paper, and trash. so nice.

i currenty have an underthecounter simplehuman pull out trash can and then two plastic bins out in the open for recyclables...which are now so heinously full! grr.

i want the 3-part dealie.

My bigger problem is having to make a 40 mile round trip to drop off our recycling. A container that will store a month's worth of items to recycle would fill a room, which it does!! in paper bags.

Target used to have a nice 3 part stainless steel recycling bin, but it's since been discontinued.
