Wrapper Rage

2008_02_11 wrapper rage.jpg Have you experienced wrapper rage? We have, which is why we ended up blogging about can openers as a simple and quick solution to dealing with seemingly bulletproof packaging. While this approach definitely works, wouldn't it be nice to be able to open up your new gadget without having to completely destroy the packaging or risk bleeding?

Also, it turns out that most municipalities don't actually pick up this type of packaging for recycling curbside. Is there really no way to ship product in a recyclable package that does not require tools to open? A survey conducted by Southern Methodist University found that nearly 80 per cent of the respondents "expressed anger, frustration or outright rage" with plastic packaging materials. Something has to be done about this.

there are scissors made special for opening this type of plastic packaging. i've never tried them but I know they were pushing them during the X-mas season.

I don't understand the point of the packaging. it only deters a thief who planed on opening a product, putting it in his pocket and walking out, but it seems like if most people want to steal something, they'll just take it anyways.

All I ask is that scissors never again be sold in a package that is only openable by other scissors.

I have been happy with the "Zibra ZPCOPEN-OR Open It Universal Package Opener" I picked up at Home Depot. I see it is also available at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Zibra-ZPCOPEN-Universal-Package-Opener/dp/B000IHHOVI

I think it is the offset jaws that make this a winner. It also has a small razor in one handle and a small screwdriver in the other. $15.
