Green Exhibition: Philly Heart Design

Tim Brown.QuenchBench101608.jpgWater bottles, skateboard decks, and hangers are all part of the green furniture showcased at Philly Heart Design. It's organized by the Salm brothers of Mio design and kicks off this weekend, fittingly, in the city of brotherly love. salmcollage101608.jpg

salmnails090908.jpgThe second annual show opens tonight and runs through October 22nd at the University of Pennsylvania. It's showing concurrently with "Design Philadelphia 2008" which features open studios throughout the city. Besides Tim Brown's Quench Bench, which we're told anyone can easily fabricate, Mio has curated a number of other local designers to show their latest wares.

Green pieces include Jason and Adam Podlaski of Podlaski Design's deck stool. deckstool_single101608.jpg

Tim Poiesz, who's a student at Philadelphia University, is showing his Hangout table, which is made of plastic hangers and zip ties. We're not usually a fan of furniture made from hangers, but we like the way the color contrast adds interest to this piece. hanger101608.jpg

Anyone going to the show?

i couldn't imagine anyone actually putting the plastic bottle stool in their house, though it could be slipcovered. i really like the hanger table though.
