apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Does anyone know of a store like this in the greater Boston area? Heck, I'll take New England.

I know of places that do great eco-friendly home furnishings, clothing, etc. But not building materials. I'm kind of going nuts (and lord knows how much I'm driving) going from showroom to showroom looking at the 1 or 2 eco-friendly/socially responsible products in otherwise conventional building materials showrooms.

AT thanks for the heads up, but it's a little bit of a pet peeve of mine when people write articles about all of the great shopping you can do on Earth Day. Go outside for chrissake!

Also sibhan I just finished a green renovation in the bay area and did go to this store a couple of times. However, I still ended up going to a bunch of different stores for different products because

a) this store is quite expensive and definitely geared for the wealthier crowd and

b) the one product that I almost bought there was flooring for over radiant heat. When I did my own research into the product they recommended I found that the flooring was not suitable for over radiant heat, despite what the sales person had told me. If I had gone ahead on their recommendation I would have had flooring that was without a warranty because of the heating situation!

So, I believe if you are truly interested in green renovation you have to do a lot of running around and a ton of research. No matter what stores are around you.

Thankfully the Bay Area isn't the only with businesses offering Earth Day Sales. I live in Colorado Springs and most of the businesses in downtown are having sales this weekend. No matter where you are it's worth checking around to see if places near you are doing the same.
