Rag Chair by Droog

7-15-2008Rag_chair-lg_copy.jpg

We've been seeing some really interesting chairs these days -- made out of wine barrels, whiskey barrels, clothing hangers. You name it.

Now rags ...

What do you think?

This is the Rag Chair by Droog. You cna buy it for $5,500 at Greener Grass Design. You can also incorporate your own used clothing into the chair.

As a sort of informal hot or not, give us your thoughts. Obviously the price is more than a little steep -- but, price aside, we're still just not quite sure about it.

... more than a little steep?! What planet are you folks from? And for what, a bundle of rags? This isn't useful green design; it's a bauble for the obscenely wealthy.

What's more, no-one over the age of ten could sit in it comfortably. Even the model looks uneasy in it, and well she should be -- I suspect if she leaned back the whole thing would tip right over.

Looks poorly crafted, poorly designed, and downright ugly. You'd think a designer would take an idea like this and go one step further, like weave new upholstery out of the old cloth, or make a quilted cover out of old cloth, or use shredded old clothing as batting, or do something that required a semblance of creativity or ingenuity. But nah, let's just strap it all together and charge, oh, $5500 (which sounds like an arbitrary and ridiculous price that a child came up with).
