We recently saw this chair at an art gallery and it’s one of the coolest uses of recycled plastics we’ve seen in furniture. The RD Legs Limited Edition chair is the latest of Cohda’s designs, and is made of hand woven 100% recycled plastic waste. Cohda uses recycled HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) such as milk bottles, detergent bottles and food trays. The RD in the name of the chair stands for Roughly Drawn, an expression of the gesture and form of the chair's outrageous shape.
The Cohda RD Legs design has been recognized as one of this decades major iconic eco-products and was recently short listed in the category of "Innovation" in the House and Garden Classic design awards at London's historic Victoria and Albert Museum. The RD Legs Chair was also featured at HauteGREEN 2007
Only 50 limited edition pieces will be produced as 25 green and 25 black, each will be numbered and signed. The limited edition chairs come with a high price tag - about $2100 a piece.
Visit Cohda's website for more information on their other environmental projects.
Amazing use of recycled plastic! Was this their inspiration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyJsWRaUbiU ?
By the way, I just started my own blog http://www.swyyne.com/ (for urban piggies) and was wondering if it was cool if I linked to some of your posts/pics.
Thank you!
