Simple Green: Share Trash Cans at Work

officetrashcan.jpg

When a co-worker recently suggested we share one wastebasket between the two of us, I gave her a funny look — until I realized she had a great green idea in mind...

Then she explained that the cleaning crew replaces the plastic bags nightly--and by sharing one trash can, we'd cut plastic bags down by half. Such a great idea!

And if your office could use a little Spring cleaning, these trash cans from Umbra are made with plastic that degrades.

Our cleaning crew replaces trash bags once a week, unless there's disgusting food in the garbage.

Our housekeepers only empty the trash cans in our cubicles once every two weeks (we have a strict no-food in the cans policy and we can bag our own and leave it in the aisle for them to pick up). I don't us "my" trash can at all, I just carry my trash to the large communal trash can near the door.
