DIY Woodpecker Feeder

7-23-2008woodpecker.jpg

Woodpeckers are awesome creatures. We saw one just the other day going to town on a telephone pole. When they do their work, they really look just like Woody the Woodpecker used to in the cartoons.

We haven't experienced this, but sometimes woodpeckers can actually do damage to homes. So what's to be done?

Danny Seo was given this DIY Woodpecker Feeder by a helpful neighbor. It's filled with peanuts, which the woodpecker will hopefully go for, rather than the wood beams of the house.

We have a few questions: Have you ever had woodpecker troubles? Have you ever used something like this feeder? And, did it work?

We used to have a suet feeder up, which the woodpeckers loved, but since we took it down they've started snacking on the house. I understand they like to go for the knots in the wood. They'll use our regular feeder, too - and chirp up a storm while they do it!
