ZOMG!!! Adorable doxie alert! But seriously...I've owned the Honeywell Low Profile Model HZ-519 ($60) space heater for a few years now and it's wonderful. I keep it right in front of my fireplace and it's quick to heat up the whole room and is silent!

I use the de Longhi oil-filled heater and I can vouch for its being really effective and really efficient. Also, it's silent, and works like a radiator instead of blowing hot air over hot coils. I luuurrvvee it.
