Green Home Survey: Are We Ready For Solar?

7_16_2007 solarpanel.jpgNearly 90 percent of Americans think that solar electricity should be an option for all new home construction, up significantly from one year ago (79 percent). Three-quarters perceive solar power to be more important than ever, evidence that Americans recognize the value of solar as a clean, renewable form of energy. The survey was conducted in May of this year among 1,004 adults to measure their perceptions of solar power and was commissioned by Sharp Electronics Corporation.
We think the above -- direct from the source -- is great news.

Is it time to add solar to your home? More resources after the jump...

Three things to know about solar:
• Questions about how solar works? Check out this comprehesive FAQ courtesy of GE Energy.
• In addition to the new federal tax credit, many states have additional incentives for solar installation: Oregon's are some of the most generous, offering up to $10,000. A good installer will be able to clearly explain which incentives apply to you.
• Solar can work on a cloudy day! In fact, overheated panels become less efficient, so solar can work for you even if it's not always sunny where you live.

Solar Panels are already an option, and have been...

Using Photovoltaic Panels is great - but it's really most beneficial for those who get sun a good majority of the year - Colorado, Texas, Arizona, etc.

Unless you have money to spend and truely want to be off the grid you might want to look into other energy saving options. Solar Thermal panels work great in most regions to heat hot water and for radiant heat. There's also other options such as geothermal and ice energy. When making these decisions it's best to consult your geographic location and your pocket book.

If you live in Austin Texas apparently they offer a great solar panel rebate, so good it's a no brainer - something like up to 80%.
