Well, are you even cutting back? Some are speculating that people are saving money by cutting restaurant and to-go dining and actually doing more home cooking. But even in our home kitchens, many of us our feeling the pinch. Are you giving anything up to balance a shrinking budget? Has this been difficult, or perhaps liberating? Is there something in particular that you won't give up, no matter what? Tell us in the comments.

we are eating a lot less meat, for sure, but i'd say the biggest improvement we've made in the kitchen is to use food more effectively and efficiently. it's saving money, saving resources.
of course, we're not giving up little luxuries like (boxed) wine, and we still buy as much organic and local as we can afford. we figure we're investing in good health, so we don't need to spend too much less. instead we cut down in other ways (not eating out, not shopping, etc.)

I already don't eat meat, but I checked "Less expensive ingredients" because I'm trying to be careful about buying new spices (I already have plenty) or buying expensive packaged items. I'm trying to cook from scratch as much as possible but still making nutrient-dense, tasty food with organic and local produce.

We're eating less meat, and cooking more from bulk staples (beans, rice, quinoa, bulgar). I'm also learning how to can and make jam so our CSA bounty doesn't get wasted.
