Survey: What Did You Think of Earth 2100?

What happens if we do nothing?

That's what the ABC special, Earth 2100 asked last night. We watched the last 45 minutes or so, and for a while there, we'll admit, depression took over. The narrators spoke of a world overcome with disease, famine, rising sea levels, completely demolished ecosystems, and a human race that was so beaten down, it was wallowing in its own demise — all because of climate change...

But in the last 15 minutes of the show, ideas for a bright, green future came up. There were alternative fuel ideas, and talk of self-sustainable cities — not to mention a revolution for agriculture and a resurgence of a can-do global attitude. We were encouraged by the fact that the show called on a force greater than the individual to make changes, and make them quickly. The slew of experts interviewed, after giving us the worst-case scenario, had wonderful ideas for making the future a great place to be.

In the end, we decided, this was a fascinating (albeit terrifying) look at what could happen in the future. And it gave us hope that globally we'll begin to live smarter and lighter.

What did you think? If you missed it, there are plenty of videos on the ABC site.

It's too bad the leading experts on climate change were given very small roles in the "movie". They had the most important things to say. The voice-over story was pretty poorly & cheaply done in my opinion. Just not that well made. The experts should have had star roles.

Al Gore's documentary is a MUCH better watch.
