We're always thinking about how to use textiles that were designed for other purposes in our home decor. We found this white vintage stool in the photo above, at Boomerangs in Jamaica Plain for $20. It came with a gnarly yellow vinyl seat cover. So we used our trusty upholstery gun to replace it with this colorful, grounded-in-black, fabric. The fabric was actually a skirt that we never wore because it didn't fit right. But we love it on the kitchen stool and now it fits just right (close-up photo below the jump)...

I haven't re-purposed nontraditional fabric for home decor yet, but last winter when I couldn't afford to run the heater I turned a ratty old comforter into a jacket to keep from freezing at night.
This reminds me of the AbFab episode in which Mrs. Monsoon turns some of Edina's clothes into "the only genuine Lacroix-Versace quilty bedspread in existence" :)
