Look! Inexpensive Bamboo Placemats from Target

10_2_2008-bambooplacemats1.jpgWe found these in the bargain bin at Target yesterday: $2.50 for a set of two bamboo placemats. (The centerpiece is a basil plant we use for cooking.) For day-to-day use these inexpensive mats were what we needed...

...simple, durable mats that can be wiped down rather than put through the wash. We didn't want to buy plastic placemats, so we were a bit stymied until we found these.

They're not available online—you'll have to venture into your closest Target to find these. There is also a matching runner for $2.50.10_2_2008-bambooplacemats2.jpg (You won't have to walk far, though: they're in the bargain bins immediately inside the entrance.)

Crate & Barrel has the Kiray placemat, a similar product, priced at $4.95 each.

Haven't seen these in person, but I think it would be fun to make my own bias tape out of pretty bright fabric and sew it over the greenish one shown.

Dollar stores sell these as well, with tackier colored edge binding.
