The Cure will help. Are we too lazy? Are our problems with clutter and obesity linked to the fact that we simply don't work that hard anymore? Yes, says Geoff Colvin over at Fortune in this cogent little article, Are Americans too lazy?. Drawing from new research from the UN's International Labor Organization, which looks at working hours around the world, it seems that our success has made us soft and that we may be suffering as a result. Not so much "drawing from" the research study as distorting it...
If you read the magazine linked you'll see that the study defined working more than 48/hrs week as "excessive." So its finding about the U.S. was that almost one-fifth of American workers work excessive hours.
Far from valorizing the hard-working Koreans, the ILO was concerned that having so many people working such long hours is inhumane and contrary to human dignity.
