A Treadmill Powered by Your Heartrate

060409_sz_greentreadmill.jpg The only reason we make it to the gym is because the machines have cable (and now iPod video connectivity). Working out is a lot less painful when given the excuse to watch some bad cable TV. But we've always wondered, while looking at the rows of people running in place, isn't there a way to use all this energy?

Well, a company has figured out how to use the energy you produce on treadmill to power the darn thing. The Woodway EcoMill uses the energy you create sweating to the oldies to power not only the treadmill, but the battery that makes the display light up (note: the display doesn't include a TV screen). At $8,500 we're not sure how many of you will be purchasing one of these for the home, but we hope it's a sign of a larger trend in fitness equipment.

It's a great concept but yikes, the price tag is steep! It's a step in the right direction though- technology will only get better.
