Ahhhh .... shower curtains. We've talked about them before, but we think they warrant another discussion, especially given the fact that they were, at one point, the bane of our existence.
The one we had worked in our last apartment; but, when we moved, it was prone to billowing in on us (to the point of suffocation) in our new apartment's tiny shower.
So we went to Target and were dismayed to find that the majority of their plastic shower curtains were made of 100% PVC. That wasn't going to work, so we kept digging.
We finally found a suitable fabric shower curtain liner at Target. It gets pretty wet but, as long as we're careful, doesn't leak. We're relatively happy with it, but might have been even more pleased by a plastic liner from IKEA (they're made from PEVA not PVC).
Or perhaps an organic cotton or hemp curtain from One Earth One Design -- which, we've read, do get wet (like ours) but don't leak.
What is your shower curtain made from -- and how happy are you with it?

Evidently the fabric ones for sale at places at BBB also are coated with some sort of plastic. The idea of breathing all of that in through shower fumes is scary. Our current shower has a glass door, but if I were to buy new curtains I'd definitely go for the linen/natural fiber ones.

I never realized this was such a big problem for so many people. I've always had a fabric shower curtain liner, even when I was growing up, and I've had the same one for probably 8 years now. It doesn't get gross or look cheap. The only plastic on it is at the top where the ring holes are, for reinforcement. It has never leaked. The bottom is weighted so that it doesn't billow. It was $10 at Target. I can throw it in the washing machine and it looks brand new every time.
My decorative shower curtain is also fabric, from Crate & Barrell. No leaks, ever. No mildew.
Am I missing something here? Why isn't everyone using these?

I was recently looking for a "green" environmentally friendly shower curtain (see post http://cayennecarob.blogspot.com/2007/10/pvc-free-shower-curtains.html).
Now that I have been living with my nylon shower curtain from PlushLiving for 6 months, (see Sprout home, http://store.sprouthome.com/bedbath-shower-curtains.html) I have only good things to say about it. They are water resistant, can easily be thrown in the washer, and keep their nice, bright color through multiple washes.

I'm using a linen shower curtain from Gaiam right now. It gets thoroughly wet, but doesn't leak and dries pretty quickly. However, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone whose bathroom doesn't dry out easily. Despite the "anti-mold" claims, mine did get mildew when I went too long (2 months) without washing it. I'm washing it--by machine, and hanging it back up to dry--about every two weeks, and that seems to be fine.
Does anyone have any good recommendations for getting mildew stains out of linen? (It's natural colored, unbleached and undyed, so bleach is out even if I did want to use it.)

I have a world map shower curtain from Target. It smells of chemicals and plastic, and I hate that, but I loved the world map and needed it bad. Course, after smelling the chemicals every time I shower, I've just used a scrim curtain with liner in my other bath.

I bought a sealife-themed shower curtain from http://www.justhomedecor.com/estore/home.php?cat=2196. They have EVA vinyl, fabric and great designs.
