In this weekend's Los Angeles Times, Susan Carpenter points out that urban soil may contain high levels of lead, arsenic and other chemicals which will then leech into your garden's bounty. She suggests two resources for having your soil tested:

Wallace Laboratories: El Segundo. (310) 615-0116. $65 per test.

EarthCo: St. Louis. (314) 994-2167. $20 to $100 per test.
