Caroma Dual Flush Toilet

051308caromabuttons.jpgNothing like coming back from vacation to a completely non-functioning toilet. We knew our ancient one was on its way out, but tried to put off replacing it for just a little while. We could wait no more! We headed straight to Greenmaker Building Supply, ready and willing to take the best (within our budget of course) dual flush toilet that they had in stock...

051308Sydney-305.jpg...and we walked away with the Caroma Sydney toilet. "Reviewing" a toilet seems odd and a little gross, but let's just say that we couldn't be happier. After thinking about a dual flush system for a long time, it's pretty cool to finally have it up and running. This is also the first time in life that we have a toilet that didn't first belong to someone else. Incredible.

It's not gross. Everyone pees and poops. I love these toilets -- added them to my upgrade list. Thanks!

Looks identical to my toilet! Which works well, except for the fact that the water reservoir only just holds enough for one full-size flush, nothing left in reserve to force it down in case a double-flush is required. But I digress...

What's the benefit of a double flush toilet?

Dual flush toilets offer a patented dual flush technology consisting of a 0.8 Gal flush for liquid waste and a 1.6 Gal flush for solids. They can save up to 40% (approx. 4600 gallons) compared to today’s standard 1.6-gallon single flush toilets. On an average of 4/1 uses a day, Dual Flush toilets use only an average of 0.96 Gallons per flush. Caroma, an Australian manufacturer that invented the Dual Flush technology manufactures award winning toilets that are both user friendly and, with a full 3.5″ trap way, virtually blockage-free! Wouldn’t that be nice to be able to finally kiss the plunger good bye? Beware of some products reducing the amount of water flushed to use with your existing toilet. Existing bowls are not designed to perform with reduced amounts of water, so the likelihood of clogging your toilet while you are trying to flush paper and solid waste increases drastically.
