EcoFlow: Dual Flush Retrofit

08-18-08ecoflow.jpgHere at Apartment Therapy we like to tout the greatness of dual flush toilets. But what if you already have a working toilet? Is it really more eco-friendly to get rid of it for a new dual flush one? Well, Brondell has designed a solution…

Brondell’s new product, EcoFlow, fits on your existing
toilet and upgrades it to a dual flush water saving fixture. According to Brondell, EcoFlow installs in only 30 minutes
on your existing toilet and provides full flush and half flush options and claims to reduce water consumption by fifty percent. All this - without the cost, inconvenience
and environmental impact of installing a new toilet fixture. 08-18-08ecoflowfull.jpgBecause it's not out yet we can't say how well it really works. It's also a little difficult to tell how easy it would actually be to install in 30 minutes, but we're excited about this product, and it comes from a pretty reputable company. The product is designed to fit more than 90% of existing toilet features and will come with a one-year warranty. EcoFlow will be available in September for around $129.

Would you rather retrofit instead of purchasing a new dual flush toilet?

Yes, i would rather retrofit because I feel pretty confident that throwing a huge piece of porcelain into a landfill is really not earth friendly. What I can't decide is if it's less earth friendly than a full flush. Anyone have any research on this?

Not to mention, I rent, so replacing my landlords toilet is not on my list of things to do.

This sounds great. I love the idea of a dual flush toilets, but as my toilets are fairly new, I can't imagine tossing them out.
