Bland, institutional mini-blinds are rarely our go-to window treatment, but Helena Karelson's revamped venetians are anything but boring.

Made from sycamore veneer, the Contour Blind's undulating slats allow light to filter through the irregular gaps with subtle, but striking results. We can imagine a row of them creating a mesmerizing wall of warm, rippling waves.

Given Karelson's attention to both aesthetics and sustainability (her modular design leaves no post-production waste), it's no surprise she won the Best New Blood award at London's prestigious Design & Art Direction Annual.

I couldn't find a picture of them in a room to see if they just looked like broken blinds.
